The Stanley Cup
The Pens won the Cup this year and that just blows me away still. Two teams from the Burgh won their respective championships in the same year. Kick Ass
Is there any doubt that the Stanley Cup is the coolest trophy in all of sports? The history and traditions are completely unique. I would also say the respect, but the above link shows that it’s a different kind of respect.
I couldn’t even tell you what the World Series trophy is called. I know the NFL is the Lombardi and I think the NBA is Naismith. But I also believe they get to keep their trophy, the NHL has the Cup for the off season then someone else gets it. No cup on display in Lemieux’s office.
There seems to be a sense of comraderie with hockey teams that is also unique to their sport. They’re low paid (in comparison to other sports) and tough and they’re all playing for one thing, the Cup.
